FAD has extensive and well-functioning international relations and contacts. The offices of the World Federation of the Deaf   (WFD) president and general secretary are located in the Light House. The president of FAD, Mr Markku Jokinen, is also president of WFD. Dr Liisa Kauppinen, FAD executive director, was honoured by the XVI General Assembly by being approved as president emeritus.

As a member of the European Union of the Deaf, FAD participates in many European activities.

Cooperation among the Deaf in Nordic countries through the Nordic Council of the Deaf  has a long tradition.

Development projects occupy an important part of its international activities. Projects with our sister organizations are being carried out in the eastern and southern parts of Africa, Central Asia, South East Asia (Cambodia), the Balkans and North West Russia. We also have many contacts with Estonia and the St. Petersburg area.
